Gilmer County EDA receives $50,000 Community Development Block Grant Funding
Jeff Campbell, President of Gilmer County EDA and Shane Whitehair of Region VII Planning and Development Council accepts the grant award from Governor Justice's Chief of Staff Mike Hall.
The Gilmer County Commission, in cooperation with the Gilmer County EDA, received a $50,000 Community Development Block Grant for a broadband development plan. This plan will enable the Commission to pursue a broadban internet network and will also serve as a blueprint to puruse additional federal grants for telecommunication improvements not currently available.
Governor Justice's Chief of Staff Mike Hall presented the grants during a ceremony on the top floor of the recently renovated Building 3 on the state Capitol complex. It was the first time block grant funding has been used to help pay for broadband projects in the state.
